About

This website is for trainers to provide safety training to women journalists, integrating digital security, physical safety and well-being.

About

Female media professionals are often targeted specifically because of their gender. They are exposed to the same risks as their male colleagues, such as killings, imprisonment, intimidation, surveillance and more. However, they also face specific risks and forms of violence because of their gender, including (online) harassment, smear campaigns, or sexual violence and face more risks in their their workplace.

The harassment and attacks faced by female media professionals can lead to self-censorship and even withdrawal from the profession, which is problematic for the journalistic sector.

For this reason, Free Press Unlimited has developed a comprehensive safety training to mitigate the threats women journalists are facing.

The training

To make women journalists more resilient towards those intimidations and protect themselves, Free Press Unlimited developed a comprehensive safety training curriculum for safety trainers integrating elements on physical, digital, and psycho-social safety for an offline training.

There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to security and needs differ depending on the region that the journalist is living and working in. This is why our training is designed to be adapted by local trainers using real-life examples and contexts that women journalists can relate to.

Free Press Unlimited aims to provide a platform where trainers can continue to exchange new knowledge and resources related to the safety of female media professionals.
